Surgical referrals

General Paediatric and Neonatal Surgery

At all times, the designated on-call Paediatric Surgical Team will consist of the following:

  • Foundation Year doctor
  • Core Surgical Trainee and/or Advanced Nurse Practitioner
  • Specialist Trainee in Paediatric Surgery
  • Consultant Surgeon
  • There may also be two additional Consultants on call for Extracorporeal Life Support/Thoracic emergencies, and Renal Transplant

At times it may not be possible to deal directly with some team members if they are delivering acute surgical care. Using the numbers below will ensure that referrals are received promptly or passed on to the appropriate person.

Primary Care Referrals

At all times, contact the Core Trainee for acute referrals or advice. If more senior advice is required, they will escalate this promptly - DECT phone 0141 452 4498 or Page 18600 through hospital switchboard (0141 201 0000)

Emergency Department Referrals

Inpatient referrals from hospitals (within and out with GGC)

Between 8am-10pm, for Acute Paediatric Surgical or Neonatal Surgery referrals, contact the Specialist Paediatric Surgical Trainee‎ - DECT phone 0141 452 ‎5788

After 10pm, for Acute Paediatric Surgical referrals, contact the Core Surgical Trainee - DECT phone 0141 452 4498 or Page 18600 through hospital switchboard (0141 201 0000)

After 10pm, for Neonatal Surgery referrals, contact the Consultant Paediatric Surgeon through the hospital switchboard - contact through hospital switchboard (0141 201 0000)
